UFC’s Dong Hyun Kim pens psychology help book

UFC welterweight Dong Hyun Kim recently released a book in his native Korea that’s aimed at giving readers mental tips. Part autobiography part self-help book, Dong Hyun Kim’s Mental Lessons draws upon his life experiences, especially those relating to his fighting career, to inspire and help others.

Sonnen welcome back at Reign Gym, despite drug failures

UFC middleweight and owner of Reign MMA Mark Munoz says he’s willing to forgive and forget Chael Sonnen’s two recent failed drugs tests. The former Team Quest member started training at Munoz’s California facility last year. Sonnen retired from MMA between two positive drugs tests for performance enhancers. Munoz told mma-in-asia.com: “He asked if he was welcome back after all that was revealed and I told him he’s more than welcome.”

Heavyweight great Fedor to stay top dog

Former Pride heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko has revealed he’s never stopped training despite retiring from MMA in 2012. He told the Calgary Sun he believes a true athlete still hits the gym even after they’ve finished competing. He said: “There’s a lot of younger guys who would like to take me down (in the gym), so I always need to keep up because I definitely don’t want that to happen.”

UFC 1’s Gordeau blinded Nakai because referee 'wouldn't stop' fight

Karateka Gerard Gordeau, best known for reaching the final of the first UFC tournament, has revealed he blinded Yuki Nakai at Vale Tudo Japan 1995 with an eye gouge because the referee wouldn’t stop the fight. Gordeau told Sherdog he asked the referee to stop the fight because he believed Nakai had taken too much damage. Gordeau recalled: “I said to the referee, ‘You have to stop the fight otherwise I’ll do it.’ And I put out his eye.” Nakai, a former trainer to several MMA stars such as Shinya Aoki, won the fight by heel hook in the fourth round. He has been blind in his right eye ever since.
