Powerful percentages and show-stopping stats from mma’s past month

According to FightMatrix, there were 15,259 mixed martial arts fights in 2013. That’s down from 16,825 in 2012. Going by the stat keeper’s non-exhaustive records, that’s the first drop since 1993, when the UFC began.

Josh Barnett was comprehensively knocked out by a flurry of Travis Browne elbows at UFC 168. It’s only the second time Barnett has been cleanly KO’d. The other happened at UFC 30 nearly 13 years ago.

January’s UFC Fight Night 34 was the Las Vegas company’s first trip to Singapore. There’d been 39 events since the last time the UFC made a debut visit to a country, in November 2012 for UFC Macau when Cung Le KO’d Rich Franklin.

Fan favorite Chris Leben has hinted at retirement following his UFC 168 loss to Uriah Hall, where he wasn’t able to answer the bell for round two. ‘The Crippler’ is on a four-fight losing streak with his last win, a knockout against Wanderlei Silva, coming in 2011.
