Issue 112

March 2014

Greg Jackson is the most sought-after trainer in MMA. Each issue he and acclaimed coaching partner Mike Winkeljohn mix up your martial arts skills

1. Mike (top) is inside Greg’s half guard, keeping tight and ‘smashing down’ on Greg, pressing his back to the mat. Because of the pressure from Mike, Greg can’t swim his right hand inside Mike’s left underhook, so elects for an overhook on the right side. On the left side, Greg pushes on Mike’s right hip with his left hand.

2. Greg presses off the mat with his right foot while lifting with his overhook and pushing hard on Mike’s right hip with his left hand, all in order to create motion to shrimp onto his left hip.

3. Doing so also creates a lot of room for Greg to slide his right shin onto Mike’s left hip.

4. Greg pushes with his right knee and turns into his right underhook so his upper body moves away from Mike.

5. Greg posts onto his left elbow and uses that along with his right whizzer and right knee to extract his left leg from under Mike, placing it on the mat.

6. Greg gets to his knees and puts his left hand on top of Mike’s head ready to control him as he makes his next move.
