A four-time World Jiu-Jitsu Championships gold medal winner, five-fight UFC vet Vinny Magalhaes was M-1 Global 205lb champion. He shares his best submission moves. Here, he demonstrates a maneuver offering a Triple threat finish.

1. Vinny (white gi) has Scott’s back with both hooks in.

2. Looking to escape, Scott clears the left hook – which helps Vinny initiate his attack.

3. Vinny pulls Scott up, and locks his right hooking leg in a figure four with his left leg.

4. Hooking Scott’s right ankle with his left foot, Vinny slides both legs down, trapping Scott’s right leg.

5. Vinny scoots his upper body from under Scott as he takes control of the left arm with his left hand.

6. Vinny now pulls Scott’s left arm around his own head and shoulder. From here Vinny has three finishes available to him...

1. TWISTER

1. Vinny simultaneously swings his right arm around and over Scott’s left arm, then slides it under and around the back of Scott’s head.

2. Vinny connects his hands in a Gable grip and pulls on Scott’s head to apply pressure to the spine, completing the twister.

2. BANANA SPLIT

1. Instead of wrapping his arm around Scott’s head for a twister, Vinny sits up and takes control of Scott’s left knee by hooking under with his forearm.

2. Linking his hands in an ‘S’ grip, Vinny stretches Scott out by extending his legs and pulling Scott’s left leg towards his own head – applying pressure to the groin for the submission.

3. CALF SLICER

1. For the third submission finish, Vinny begins by curling his legs up towards his own chest.

2. Vinny then takes hold of Scott’s right foot with both hands and pulls it down towards him, trapping his shin between Scott’s calf and thigh, adding pressure to force the tap.
