Kenny Johnson is one of the most esteemed wrestling coaches in MMA. Noted for his work with BJ Penn, he’s also taught Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. He and UFC bantamweight Pedro Munhoz present the best wrestling techniques for MMA

1 Kenny (black T-shirt) stands in front of Pedro in a southpaw boxing stance, right leg forward.

2&3 Kenny shoots low into Pedro, reaching towards his thighs before thrusting his head into Pedro’s chest and positioning both his hands behind Pedro’s knees.

Note the position of Kenny’s head, angle of his back and the level of his hips.

4 Kenny drives upwards with his legs, thrusting his head through Pedro’s chest while pulling his opponent’s legs towards him.

5 Kenny lands in Pedro’s full guard burying his chest into Pedro’s chest resulting in Pedro absorbing the full force of the fall. Kenny posts both hands to establish a base.

6 Kenny positions himself to start passing Pedro’s guard.
