UFC champion Jon Jones offered part in Hot Tub Time Machine 2

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was offered a part in upcoming comedy film Hot Tub Time Machine 2. Jones’ manager, Malki Kawa, told FoxSports.com the record-breaking 205lb’er is still looking for his first film role.

“I would bet the house that it’s action, but my boys at (Hollywood talent agency) William Morris come up with crazy stuff so you never know,” said Kawa. “Hot Tub Time Machine 2, I think they had a part for him in that and the timing just didn’t work out.”

Vegas amateur promotion Tuff-N-Uff is 20 this year

Did you know Las Vegas-based amateur promotion Tuff-N-Uff is enjoying its 20th anniversary this year? Founded in 1994 by the late Barry Meyer, it’s best known for launching the pre-professional fighing careers of current UFC superstar Ronda Rousey, as well as names such as Jon Fitch and Ryan Couture, while people like MMA great Wanderlei Silva and UFC matchmaker Joe Silva are regulars at cageside.

‘Big’ John McCarthy tore knee while reffing Werdum-Browne fight

Legendary MMA referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy tore the meniscus in his left knee while refereeing the UFC on Fox 11 main event between Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne in April, eight seconds before the end of the fight. McCarthy had surgery six days after the injury, which was a much deeper tear of a minor rip he suffered a month before, John’s wife Elaine told FO. “It felt like someone had shot him in the leg,” she said of the Fox injury. “He was in excruciating pain.” Fortunately the operation only needed a month’s recovery.  

UFC’s Soszynski officially retires

Now-former UFC light heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynki has confirmed his retirement from MMA. The 26-12-1 Polish-Canadian bruiser, who has wins over Brian Stann and Stephan Bonnar, told FO he was “very proud” of his success, after starting MMA at 25 with no experience. He added his only regret was taking a fight with, and losing a decision to, Brandon Vera on four weeks’ notice. “I win that fight and I’m in the top 10 with a new contract.”
