Issue 110

January 2014

Greg Jackson is the most sought-after trainer in MMA. Each issue he and acclaimed coaching partner Mike Winkeljohn mix up your martial arts skills

1. Mike (top) is inside Greg’s half guard, keeping tight and ‘smashing down’ on Greg, pressing his back to the mat. Because of the pressure from Mike, Greg can’t swim his right hand under Mike’s underhook, so elects for an overhook on the right side. On the left side, Greg pushes on Mike’s right hip with his left hand.

2. Posting on his right foot, Greg shrimps onto his left hip, creating space.

3. That extra room allows Greg to insert his right shin up onto Mike’s left hip.

4. Greg now slides his left foot up the mat, closer to his head, and turns his ankle anticlockwise to allow him to press as much of the sole of his foot as possible into the mat.

5. Pulling up with his overhook and lifting with his right leg, Greg pushes off his left foot, extending it enough to roll Mike over and onto his back.

6. From here, Greg quickly follows through by stepping his left leg over Mike, putting him in full mount.
