Incredibly, votes were cast by MMA fans on four continents with the Awards site registering nominations from no less than 34 countries worldwide.

It took ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award winner Royce Gracie just one second short of five minutes to win three fights at UFC 1 and change the face of martial arts, and indeed fight sports, forever.

There were seven repeat winners this year: Ronda Rousey, Dana White, Brittney Palmer, the UFC, Bad Boy, Herb Dean and Ariel Helwani.

Vitor Belfort required 25 months of action to win the ‘Knockout of the Year’ award rather than be a victim of it. After being KO’d for Anderson Silva to bag the prize in 2011, Vitor switched roles with his own head kick KO, over Luke Rockhold.

Chris Weidman followed Jon Jones on to the podium as the second former ‘Breakthrough Fighter of the Year’ winner to progress to collect the main Charles ‘Mask’ Lewis title. All eyes on this year’s ‘Breakthrough’ star Travis Browne for 2014 then.

This is the third year in succession the ‘Comeback of the Year’ prize has been won by a heavyweight as Travis Browne followed in the footsteps of Cheick Kongo in 2011, and Frank Mir in 2012.

The illustrious ‘Gym of the Year’ title has never been retained, changing hands every year for five years, it’s been won by Jackson’s, Wand Training Center, Black House, Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and, this year, Team Alpha Male.
