Legend Tito Ortiz launches management firm
Recently retired mixed martial arts icon, and this month’s cover star, Tito Ortiz has launched a management company. Huntington Beach-based 360 Primetime Entertainment and Sports Management will house clients in mixed martial arts as well as other sportspeople, actors and musicians, and already has ex Strikeforce women’s champion Cris Cyborg and ex TUF competitor Rob Emerson on
the books.
Nevada secretary of state wins MMA debut, then retires
Nevada politician Ross Miller recently won his amateur MMA debut and then promptly retired from the sport. The 36-year-old six-foot-four Nevada secretary of state, and longtime MMA fan and practitioner, scored a second-round TKO at a World Fighting Championship event in August. Despite the result, Miller, who was elected in 2006, announced after the bout he would not make a return to the cage.
Van Damme visits doppleganger St-Pierre
Action movie star Jean Claude Van Damme recently met with UFC welterweight champion, and JCVD lookalike, Georges St-Pierre at the title-holder’s home gym, Tristar. The meeting, captured on video, has lead to speculation Van Damme may accompany St-Pierre to the ring before a long-mooted superfight with Anderson Silva, echoing fellow martial arts actor Steven Seagal’s corner work with the UFC middleweight champion.
UFC bantamweight Ivan Menjivar is political nominee
Always-exciting UFC 135lb’er Ivan Menjivar (right) is running for a legislative position in the National Assembly of Quebec. The Canadian-Salvadoran announced via his social networking portals he is a candidate in the Anjou-Louis-Riel district for the recently formed PCMQ, or Party of the Middle Class of Quebec. The PCMQ aims to “elect members of the middle class and the silent majority [to] the National Assembly.” Up until recently, the 24-9 ‘Pride of El Salvador’ also moonlighted in airport security when not competing in the cage.
