PART THREE

The final five finishes in our triple-edition-spanning flow drill

The third and final part of our massive flow drill, mapping an astonishing 12 fight finishes in one sequence of moves, has arrived. Over the past two issues (available via back order if you missed out) you’ve discovered how to improve your submission fluency. Those who’ve kept with us for the previous two issues might notice a change in training partner and location for these shots. Don’t be alarmed, ultimately the content and conclusion are as they were intended from the outset.

Chain sequence continued

Finish 8

1 Pete passes his leg over Ryan’s head and pulls his heels towards his butt. He straightens out the arm to apply the straight armbar from the guard.

2 Ryan stacks Pete to resist the armbar.

3 Pete passes the right leg back to the triangle.

4 Now Ryan is expecting the armbar-triangle combo again.

5 Instead, Pete pushes Ryan’s arm to his hip.

6 Pete rotates his body.

7 Pete kicks his leg down to press Ryan’s shoulder to the mat.

Finish 9

8 Pete turns his legs and leans over as if to whisper in Ryan’s ear, applying the omoplata.

Finish 10

9 Ryan prevents Pete from sitting up and attempts to step over. Pete grabs the foot to apply a figure-four toehold.

10 Ryan starts to Granby out of the omoplata.

11 Pete controls the roll guiding Ryan to fall under the cross-body.

12 Pete sits and retains the wrist control.

13 Pete reverses his direction and spins back to sit on Ryan’s chest.

14 From the reverse angle, Pete rotates both legs to face one way and passes a leg

around Ryan’s neck.

Finish 11

15 Pete locks up a mounted triangle.

16 Ryan resists the triangle so Pete passes his leg over Ryan’s head.

Finish 12

17 Pete lies back and straightens the arm for another straight armbar.
