UFC vet Quarry releasing Zombie apparel

Semi-retired UFC veteran Nate Quarry is fully unleashing a new, zombie-themed line of media and apparel called Zombie Cage Fighter. The brand, which aside from clothing also has a dedicated comic book series, a screenplay and animated show in the works, is based around the concept of a not-so-distant future where the living battle the dead in regulated mixed martial arts. Quarry, who first started the Zombie Cage Fighter line just over a year ago, describes the screenplay as a “biographical horror of my life.” Adding: “I think there’s a huge crossover between MMA and pop culture… If somebody enjoys Zombie Cage Fighter and thinks they’re going to have fun with it, then buy a shirt. If not, that’s cool.” For more information, and to see the Steve Nazar-designed shirts, visit zombiecagefighter.com.

‘It’s time!’ for Bruce Buffer to launch book

The ‘veteran voice of the Octagon’ Bruce Buffer will join the list of numerous UFC personalities who have penned autobiographical books when he releases one of his own later in 2012. Randy Couture, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Brock Lesnar and even pioneering referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy have all published titles retelling their lives, and while Buffer says he’s still working on his, the rights have already been bought by super-publisher Random House. Buffer debuted in mixed martial arts at UFC 8 back in February 1996 and is the younger brother of boxing announcer Michael Buffer, famous for his line, ‘Let’s get ready to rumble.’

Ken Shamrock, Mike Brown star in Vietnam movie

UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock and former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown have filmed starring roles in soon-to-be-released independent war movie, Bunker nVa. The small-scale action flick is based in 1965 during the Vietnam War and features Shamrock as ‘Rock’ and Brown as Lieutenant Chris Jacobs and their characters’ involvement in the search for a renegade Special Forces team and the capture of a Vietnamese girl. The film’s producer, Joe Black, says: “You can bet Shamrock is going to bring you total action, hand-to-hand combat, with that rage in the cage attitude we all love. Brownie, the more reserved calm attitude, with that hard knockout power. And both men are not on the same side.” The film is due for a 2012 release.

Son of 'British Bulldog' set to embark on MMA career

Harry Smith, the son of the late pro wrestler The British Bulldog, will make his MMA debut next year. Smith is a former WWE wrestler and is currently plying his trade on the independent circuit but told Canadian sports TV channel The Score he’s training for a career in the cage. Smith, who has learned catch wrestling under legend Billy Robinson, said: “It’s been something I’ve really wanted to try out for a long time… I’m training with Dave Batista’s MMA facility in Tampa, and I’d also like to go train with Josh Barnett more.” Earlier this year, Barnett spoke to FO about Smith

and said: “I’ve had Harry come to CSW and spar, train MMA, kickboxing, the full nine. I’ve had that kid on the mat with all kinds of people and he holds himself well.”
