K-Sos, the man with a thousand consonants, explains how hearty home-cooked fare trumps fight-camp food. You can take the boy out of Poland…
Name the leading five must-haves in your ice box.
“I’d have to say chicken, eggs, spinach, green tea and water.”
What do you gorge on?
“Definitely a good steak!”
What do you cheat with?
“I’ll be honest, I love pizza! Extra chicken, extra bacon, mushrooms and pineapple with mozzarella on a thin crust. I am salivating just thinking about it.”
Do you keep anything other than frozen peas in your freezer?
“I keep almonds in there, just to maintain their freshness. Aside from that, frozen blueberries and extra chicken and steak.”
What is your favorite bottled sauce?
“Pass the Grey Poupon, please! It’s a Dijon mustard.”
What dessert do you enjoy?
“I’m not a big fan of sweets but I do enjoy frozen yogurt now and then.”
What is your own signature dish?
“Steak with a special ‘K-Sos’ rub.”
What is your favorite meal during fight camp?
“Right now I love eggs and rice cakes. Other times it’s all about my wife’s homemade spaghetti sauce.”
What meal do you eat after the weigh-in?
“I keep it plain, not go crazy. I’ll just have chicken, rice and vegetables.”
What food do you look forward to most after a fight?
“Pizza and hamburgers this time.”
Which nationality of food is your favorite?
“I really enjoy Mexican food since moving to California but nothing beats Polish food. A soup called barszcz is my favorite.”
Finally, what are your three favorite meals?
“As I mentioned I’m really into eggs and rice cakes with raw spinach. I also love my breakfast bowl – oatmeal, flaxseed, chia seeds, almonds, blueberries and green tea. Plus, grilled steak, mushrooms and peppers is always great. But the ultimate meal would include sushi, pizza, frozen yogurt and a hamburger to wash it all down. I accomplished this once and it was delicious!”
