One of MMA’s most intimidating heavyweights shows FO his softer side with a walkthrough of his chilled-out playlist.

What do you use to listen to music?

“I use my iPhone and my iPod. I also have a white iPad 2 that I use sometimes.”

What is your favorite genre of music?

“I listen to everything, it all relaxes my mind and puts me at peace with myself.”

Do you listen to music when you train?

“Yes, a lot of the time I’ll just have the music in my head. It’s good because I don’t have to bring an MP3 player to the gym with me to help me remember what songs are good to stimulate me and help me focus. It’s important to have good vibes, especially when you are training hard.”

Do you have a favorite artist?

“I like to listen to Killswitch Engage and those kinds of bands. They raise me up. I’m not sure if you’d call that full-on rock music or something in the middle. It all depends on the rhythm and how the band or artist makes me feel.”

Do you have a signature walkout song?

“No, not really. I like to use French songs sometimes, or anything that will put me in the right mood for fighting. It’s all about the rhythm for me

when I pick out a walkout song. The songs have to be something that I can relate to.”

SHUFFLE

Hit shuffle and name the first five songs that come up. No cheating

1 SADE, CHERISH THE DAY

“This is really a chill out song but I can work out to it as well.”

2 THOM YORKE, HEARING DAMAGE

“I train to this song and it’s also something I use to listen to when driving in the car to keep me awake. I wouldn’t say I’m a big fan of Thom Yorke’s band Radiohead because I think a lot of their songs sound the same. Sometimes that can get a bit boring.”

3 ALEKS SYNTEK FEAT. ANA TORROJA, DUELE EL AMOR

“This song means a lot to me. It’s all about the love and relationships between men and women. It’s also about how life is not always easy and how things are never simple when two people get into a conflict with each other, but love still exists and it can be used to work things out and make everything better.”

4 PATRICK SWAYZE, SHE’S LIKE THE WIND

“This song is another one about relationships and love, and how if you try to be a good person then trouble will never come from the other person in your relationship. I can listen to this either when I’m working out or relaxing. It’s a good song to use when you’re trying to keep your rhythm going at a good pace.”

5 TETE, A LA FAVEUR DE L’AUTOMNE

“It’s kind of a love song but not really. It’s a sad song but a really good one at the same time. I listen to this song around the house when I’m relaxing.”
