UFC PRESIDENT DANA WHITE SPEAKS OUT ON TRT: ‘YOU DON’T NEED THAT JUNK’
Dana White, UFC president, has slammed the controversial hormone treatment testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and said he would make its use illegal in MMA if he had the choice. Fighters with low levels of testosterone are allowed by athletic commissions to boost the hormone synthetically. Several high-profile UFC fighters are known to have used the treatment.
In an interview with ESPN, White noted that UFC middleweight champion and consensus pound-for-pound king Anderson Silva doesn’t use any substances and still finds success. “This guy comes in 100% natural and he beats everybody. And something should be said for that… To me, the bottom line is you don’t need that junk. If you don’t abuse stuff younger in your career, you’ll never need to use that kind of junk.”
The executive added: “We’re regulated by the government. We’re really the only sport that’s actually regulated by the government. And the government allows these guys to do this TRT.”
When asked in the interview: “So, if it were up to you, [TRT] would be illegal, if you were making the call.” White replied: “Yeah.”
CARWIN AND NELSON TO COACH ULTIMATE FIGHTER 16
Season 16 of the popular UFC reality TV contest The Ultimate Fighter will feature heavyweights Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson as opposing coaches, the UFC has confirmed. The two will face-off at the end of the season, reported to feature welterweight contenders vying for a six-figure UFC contract.
UFC president Dana White said of Carwin and Nelson: “These two have been going at it on social media for a while and don’t seem to like each other very much, but they are going to be seeing a lot of each other during this series and I guarantee it’ll make for great TV.”
Shane Carwin was last seen competing in the Octagon in a losing three-round effort to current UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. Meanwhile, Roy Nelson rebounded from a February decision loss to Fabricio Werdum with a 51-second knockout of Dave Herman in May.
The show will return to a taped format, after running live for one series, and debut on FX in September.

K-1 and Pride veteran Bob Sapp recently asked $500 of his fight purse be donated to friend and former fighter Gary Goodridge, who is suffering from dimentia pugilistica.
10
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva said he wants to fight for 10 more years.
