Warrior MMA movie released in September

Mixed martial arts is once again the subject of a Hollywood feature film in Warrior. Starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton, the movie is due for release on September 9th and tracks the story of two conflicting sibling fighters, one a family man the other a war veteran, who are both set to compete in Sparta “the biggest winner-takes-all event in MMA history.” The picture has received warm critical reception and is directed by Gavin O’Connor, the man responsible for ice hockey classic Miracle. Several well-known MMA personalities also make appearances, such as Anthony Johnson, Nate Marquardt and referee Josh Rosenthal.

ProElite, a one-time UFC competitor, is re-entering the MMA market and attempting a challenge for position as the number-one organization under new management. Until recently, Chou was the matchmaker for Strikeforce. New owner, entertainment group Stratus Media, is debuting with an August event headlined by Andrei Arlovski.

EA Sports MMA game could return despite UFC takeover

The well-received EA Sports MMA video game could see a sequel, despite the UFC’s parent company now owning Strikeforce. EA’s franchise focuses on the California promotion, and gamers were concerned Zuffa’s takeover of Strikeforce would nix a follow-up, as Zuffa was loyal to a UFC game deal with THQ, one of EA’s rival publishers. Andrew Wilson, EA Sports’ chief of development, is hopeful of a new installment. “It’s not a no, but it’s also not a yes. We’d love for there to be another game... We have to figure out how to make that happen.”
