When UFC welterweight Thiago Alves has a cheat day, he really has a cheat day. ‘Pitbull’ reveals how he gets to eat pancakes in fight camp and guilt-free French fries before fight night
Name the leading five must-haves in your ice box?
“Fruits, broccoli, Greek yogurt, blueberries, green and red peppers – and a whole lot of steak!”
What do you gorge on?
“Cheese, man. I love cheese.”
What do you cheat with?
“Usually my cheat day is Sunday and I have a whole day planned. I go to the pancake house in the morning and eat all the pancakes and waffles I can. Then for lunch I go to a steak house. Through the day I’ll snack on sushi and then I always finish my Sunday with pizza.”
What is your favorite bottled sauce?
“Tabasco sauce, that’s my s**t.”
What desert do you enjoy?
“Carrot cake. No contest.”
What is your own signature dish?
“Barbecue. Steak is my thing, top sirloin with mozzarella sticks.”
What is your favorite meal during fight camp?
“Oatmeal with blueberries and flaxseed and nuts. Mike Dolce’s (nutritionist) oatmeal is addictive.”
What meal do you eat after the weigh-in?
“I will eat anything, but since starting the Dolce Diet I eat French fries. It’s a bit of a cheat but it’s got a lot of carbs and a little salt too.”
What food do you look forward to most after a fight?
“Definitely a really good steak. That’s what I crave because I don’t have red meat for two weeks before the weigh-in because it takes so long to break down, so that’s the first thing I want.”
Which nationality of food is your favorite?
“I would have to say Brazilian, but I love Japanese.”
Anything in there inedible?
“My ice bags.”
LOVE
“Cheese, steak, sushi.”
LOVE TO HATE
“Diets!”
WHICH…?
Pepsi or Coke? “Coke.”
Milk or Beer? “Beer.”
Coffee or Tea? “Coffee.”
Margarine or Butter? “Butter.”
Salt or Pepper? “Pepper.”
Chocolate or Cheese? “Chocolate.”
Brown Bread or White Bread? “Brown.”
Pasta or Rice? “Pasta.”
Sweet or Savory? “Savory.”
Mom’s cooking or partner’s cooking? “Mom’s for sure.”
