With a rumored UFC return on the horizon, the Xtreme Couture-trained 19-4 welterweight takes us through the gear that has him on a seven-fight win streak.

Lysol spray

Jay: “Yeah man, I’ve got to keep the cooties away. I drench all my gear down with it after I use it because the cooties are creeping on in. I get the Lysol on it and the nasty stuff off of there. Staph can be a problem in Vegas with the weather you know, dry heat. [Xtreme Couture] is probably just like any gym. I wouldn’t say it’s worse than any other. It is clean, they mop the mats three times a day but still it’s a gym so you’re going to have stuff like that around. If you take the extra steps to keep your stuff clean it lowers the risk of you getting something.”

Winning gloves

“They’re for sparring; a great pair of gloves. I’ve had them for about a year and a half now. Real expensive. I’ve got no connections on them, no sponsorship, but they’re great gloves, great for the hands. They keep your hands protected real good, and at the end of the day that’s what it’s about because your hands are your job.”

Winning headgear

“I don’t like a really bulky headgear. I want it to protect me and be something I can see out of. They have great products, Winning, and I’m definitely happy with them.”

Triumph United lace-up gloves

“I use those for hitting pads and the bag. Great gloves. I like how they mold to my hand; they’re not just a glove where they hurt all the time when you first get it. Sometimes when I first get a glove, if they really hurt my hands, I let a couple of guys use them till they break them in. But, again, those gloves they mold to your hand real good and that’s why I like them.”

Everlast gloves

“They’re a little bigger than the Winnings, another great glove. They keep my hands protected and again that’s what it’s all about. I love Everlast products too, and of course that’s one of my sponsors so they take care of me. I’ve got to show them love like they show me.”

Gel hand wraps

“I still like to wrap my hands, with a real tight wrap on them, but I still like something to protect my knuckles. The gel wrap from Everlast does the job of protecting my knuckles, and then I’ll put a normal wrap on around it. I’ll feel like my hand is real stable and I have enough protection when I want to really hit hard.”

Fairtex shinpads

“Man, those are durable shinpads. They’ve been around the game for a long time and they definitely know how to make kickboxing gear. They’re hard shinpads and I like the hard ones.”

Everlast boxing shoes

“They’re great shoes if I want to keep my ankles protected when I’m hitting pads or doing a boxing workout, they do a great job of that. They’re the high ones. They come up real high and got great protection – and they feel good too.”

Everlast boxing-style water bottle

“I don’t really like taking my gloves off all the time [to get a drink]. Sometimes a guy’s not there to give you water so I can still grab that thing with my gloves on and get some water from it just by sucking the straw. It’s a great product – again by Everlast. They know what they’re doing; they’ve been around for years.”
