The WEC lightweight has a taste for the alternative side of the musical spectrum but that doesn’t mean the Polishman’s iPod library isn’t completely clear of embarrassing material…

While he might not be a name on the lips of the casual fan, the one-time graphic designer has a long record full of respected fighters. His bouts with the likes of Clay Guida, ‘JZ’ Calvancante, Ivan Menjivar and Chris Horodecki have produced mixed results, but a massive 47-fight career at the young age of 26 shows that the Polish scrapper is a genuine threat to anyone in the lightweight division. Tunes-wise, Bart has a base in metal and rock – though he still keeps a space on his iPod clear for some chill-out sounds.

FO: Are you a huge music fan?

Bart: “Big time, yeah. I like a lot of rock, metal, and rap when I box, just to get a little bit of groove going I guess.”

So do you try out other music when you train in different styles?

“When I lift, or do jiu-jitsu, wrestling, stuff like that, I’m more of a rock guy. That’s the main kind of music I listen to.”

What about when you’re just hanging out? Is it the same kind of thing?

“A lot of HIM – that’s my favorite band. They have a lot of chill music, a lot of acoustic stuff too so that’s the kind of music I’ll pop in.”

For the uneducated, who’re HIM?

“They’re just a good European band, from Finland. They’ve got metal songs but they have a lot of chilled, laid-back music as well. They’re just very versatile with their music so that’s the main reason I like them.”

Do you have a signature walkout song?

“Yeah, it’s Enemy in Me by Vains of Jenna. It’s legit. It’s my favourite song.”

What kind of iPod do you have?

“I’ve got my iPhone. That’s what I use when I go running and everything.”

Ray Sefo was a big tough guy and he had Backstreet Boys on his iPod. Do we have any of that on yours?

“Not Backstreet Boys, but I’m sure I’ve got something lame on here.”

Almost certainly. Let’s have a look…

THE SHUFFLE CHALLENGE

Hit shuffle on your iPod and name the first five songs that come up. No cheating

1. CKY – Inhumane Creation Station

“Just a good rock band, that’s it. Obviously a smaller band, they’re not mainstream or anything like that, but they’re just a good rock band.”

2. Andrew WK – Fun Night

“He’s just a nut-bag, that’s about all. That’s why I like his music. He’s just a nut bag. Just crazy, for sure.”

3. HIM – One Last Time

Uneasy Listening Vol. 1, that’s one of the acoustic CDs by HIM. If I’m just chilling and listening to some good music, that’d be one of the songs I’d play for sure.

4. Misfits – Return of the Fly

“Another nut-bag band, they’re just crazy. A quintessential punk band for sure.”

5. Schwayze – Daze Like This

“That’s more laid back obviously too. That’s my wife’s CD, that’s why I’ve got it on here.”

[We’ve heard that one before.]
