During Shane Carwin’s destruction of Frank Mir at UFC 111, Mir was able to hit Carwin just three times in eight tries.

Carwin blasted Mir 68 times in all. He landed all 25 of his knee attempts, dropped Mir with a few brutal uppercuts and then connected on 21 of 26 ground strikes, before Dan Miragliotta jumped in to stop the fight.

Carwin has been hit an average of just seven times per fight in four Octagon appearances.

In all, Carwin has spent just seven minutes and twelve seconds inside the Octagon.

His first-round win over Mir actually increased his average length per fight to 1:48. In 12 fights, Carwin has still never seen the second round.  


PENN VS EDGAR

Number of rounds judge Doug Crosby gave to challenger Frankie Edgar at UFC 112, scoring it 50-45 in Edgar’s favor over BJ Penn. Many thought Edgar won; few thought he won all five rounds. This, and Crosby’s subsequent comments on the popular MMA forum, The Underground, landed him in some hot water.

According to Compustrike, Edgar landed nine more strikes than Penn. In total, Edgar connected 90 of 236 strikes, while Penn connected on 81 of 242 strikes.

Number of strikes landed by both Penn and Edgar in the third round.  Penn out-struck Edgar in rounds one and two, but Edgar got the best of Penn in rounds four and five.  


SILVA VS MAIA

During round number 4 of the Anderson Silva-Demian Maia middleweight title fight at UFC 112, Dana White handed the belt to Ed Soares, Silva’s manager, and left the building in disgust. He didn’t miss much in the fifth round…

Bellator FC’s deal with the bilingual TV station mun2 added 34 million households to the number of people able to check out their brand of MMA. Bellator is currently in its second season, and is continuing to push its brand to MMA fans everywhere.

In all, just (11) strikes were landed in the final frame. As chants of GSP echoed into the Abu Dhabi night, Silva hit Maia six times in 21 tries and Maia connected with just five of 26 strikes.

Silva got the brunt of the criticism because of his dance moves and reluctance to engage, but the boring strategy worked, as Maia was able to hit Silva just 12 times in the 25-minute affair.

Number of minutes it took for UFC 115 to sell out during its presale. The much-anticipated event had been surrounded with speculation over if it would be in Vancouver or not. Via Twitter, Dana White said, “Thank you Vancouver, we worked hard on getting it there. Thank you Mayor Robertson.”

Number of members of the royal family (2) who attended UFC 112 and got their hands wrapped by Jacob Stitch Duran. Stitch wrapped the hands and he and Anderson Silva signed the tape – a cool souvenir.
