The Fighters Only World Mixed Martial Arts Awards were launched at the Seni Exhibition in London in April of 2008, and was promoted with the help of The Sun online, FHM online, Sherdog.com and Fighters Only Magazine.
With nominations and votes coming in from all over the world, these are the first MMA awards to be driven completely by the public, giving fans a true voice in the industry.
Over 70,000 people visited the awards website from April through November, with just over 21,000 votes being registered. The most common complaint received was that people had to register to nominate and vote. The reason for this was to prevent results fixing, and to allow us to give the most accurate reflection of fan opinion possible.
With the first year of the awards being a success, plans for next year’s awards are well underway, with a Las Vegas-based awards ceremony high on the organiser’s list. After the overwhelming response this year we’re pleased to say that the Fighters Only World MMA Awards are definitely here to stay.

The actual awards weigh over a kilogram and are 18.5cm wide, 19.5cm high and approx 1cm thick (not including the base). Each award comes in a luxurious navy blue presentation box.

The total number of names nominated over 15 categories, meaning that on average there were just over 19 nominees who didn’t make the final shortlists in each category.

17 awards have been shipped to 15 winners in locations as diverse as Brazil, Canada, California, Denver, Nevada, and Ohio in the US, and Clitheroe in the North West ofEngland!
