Submitting a fighter like Matt Hughes is no easy task, but GSP used his developing submission skills to finish off the wrestler like few fighters have done before. Fighters Only’s resident fighter and technique expert Peter Irving shows you how he did it.
Step 1
Pete (black shorts) is going for the kimura from north-south and has maneuvered Danny (white shorts) onto his side Pete has Danny’s head and arm trapped underneath his leg, and has the figure-four grip on the top arm.
Step 2
Danny bridges and straightens his arm to escape the kimura. Pete lifts his right leg to facilitate his next attack.
Step 3
Pete puts his foot on Danny’s hip to stop him rolling further and sits back for the armbar.
Step 4
Pete throws his left leg across Danny’s face to prevent him getting up and stacking the armbar.
Step 5
Pete uses his shin and hook to push Danny away and straightens the arm.
Step 6
Danny is trapped face down and forced to tap.
