Who the f*** is ‘Jennito’?

We figure that if Jenna Jameson and Tito Ortiz were joined at the hip, the resulting hideous mutant creature with fake boobs and a huge head would be called Jennito. The thing is, Tito and Jen aren’t victims of tabloid hacks who devised a ‘cute’ made-up name. No, they actually refer to themselves as a singular entity in interviews. We want to be sick.

Amateur fighting just hit a new high

With a better level than some ‘pro’ shows, these events feature the fighters who will be the future of the sport. We’re glad we made the effort to check them out, as we’re pretty sure we spotted a few future stars, and a few years from now when they’re big time, we’ll get to be all smug and stuff and say, “We saw them first!”

Randy loves Fedor, but doesn’t love the UFC

Everyone is holding out for the big fight between Fedor and Randy. Randy has been talking about little else recently, referring to Fedor in every single interview he has given. In answer to the question “Do you care where you fight Fedor?” Randy answered: “I care that it’s not in the UFC. Outside of that, I don’t care where it happens.” Ouch. Also, has anyone else noticed how Randy always says Fedor’s name wrong? He keeps pronouncing his name “Feh-door”, when we all know it’s actually “Fey-dor”.

Brandon Vera says NO to silly money

When we mean silly money, we mean a LOT of money. Believe it or not, Brandon turned down a deal that would have been worth $90,000 to show with the same to win in his first fight, $100K/$100K for his second and $115K/$115K for his third, with the possibility of $150K/$150K, $170K/$170K and $185K/$185K if he was to become the UFC heavyweight champion. Vera said no and then disappeared from sight, citing management issues as a reason for his absence. Unfortunately it all went sour for Vera. The contractual squabble was recently resolved when the California State Athletic Commission ruled in favour of (former) manager Mark Dion. That means Vera will now have to honour his old contract and pay him $100,000 from future purses.

No Holds Barred is like so 1993

We thought we were past the point where major MMA promotions had to advertise themselves as ‘no holds barred’, a term that went out of fashion sometime around the mid-nineties. Unfortunately some persist, with adverts running on major satellite TV channels using the term. Come on guys, the days of headbutts and the like are over. This isn’t the Thunderdome.

Big cheeses still have time for the internet

Though they head up multi-million (or in Cuban’s case, billion) dollar companies, big cheeses still make time to sit down and check the internet. The evidence: Dana White has been busy getting into ‘flamewars’ on the Underground, the MMA world’s biggest forum, whereas Mark Cuban of HDNet has been trawling the MMA blogs, all the while keeping one of his own.
