Issue 037

May 2008

1) Eddie has butterfly guard with an under-over grip. His left arm is tightly overhooking Darren’s right arm.

2) Eddie switches his right hand position so that he can stop Darren from basing out.

3) Eddie begins the sweep by falling to his right side. As he goes, he lifts his left leg.

4) Reverse angle. As you can see, Eddie controls Darren’s arm to stop him from preventing the sweep. He lifts high with his left leg to kick Darren over.

5) Eddie removes his left hook, so Darren thinks he is out of trouble.

6) With Darren’s right arm still trapped, Eddie brings his left leg high up over the shoulders.

7) Eddie brings his right hand across and puts his forearm in to Darren’s neck.

8) Eddie is now in the ‘Chill Dog’ position.

9) Eddie pulls his leg in front of Darren’s face. He also straightens his right leg, over Darren’s left leg, preventing him from rolling and escaping.

10) Eddie uses the ‘kung fu move’ and pushes the foot into Darren’s face.

11) Eddie continues to drive with his leg and push away. It is important to note that Eddie is still hugging his own knee, stopping Darren from pulling his arm out.

12) Reverse angle. You can see from the foot positioning how Eddie stops Darren from rolling.

13) Eddie reaches back and takes Darren’s wrist.

14) He finishes the shoulder lock by pushing the arm upward.
