Huerta in limbo

Former UFC poster boy, Roger Huerta, is feeling left out in the cold due to the UFC not returning his phone calls. Huerta went on Inside MMA and revealed that he doesn’t know when the UFC will next book his services. “To be honest I’m just waiting for the UFC to give me a phone call and [tell me when] I’m able to fight my last fight. I’m just kind of waiting on that,” he said.

The Mexican-American fell out of favor with the promotion after complaining he wasn’t being paid enough for promotional appearances. He declined to renew his UFC contract in January in order to focus on a prospective acting and modeling career.  Huerta turned down a fight against Joe Stevenson at UFC 95 in February and claims he hasn’t heard from the UFC since. He has one fight remaining on his current contract, which runs until December.

Thomson out with broken leg

Josh Thomson had to withdraw from his fight with Gilbert Melendez on April 11 after suffering a broken leg only days before the fight. “I was sparring hard and I broke my leg during an exchange. All the hard work was done and it was time to fight. I’m very upset. I was looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans. All I can say is that I’ll be back when I get healthy.”

Thomson has undergone surgery but the Strikeforce lightweight champ will be out of action and unable to train for two to three months.

Forrest vs Thiago Silva?

Former UFC light-heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin is hoping to return to the Octagon this summer. Griffin, who had a plate inserted into a broken left hand following his fight with Rashad Evans, is rumored to be taking on Brazilian striker Thiago Silva.

The two 205lb fighters could face each other as soon as UFC 101 in August, according to Brazilian news sources.

Jenna pops out twins

Congratulations are in order for Tito Ortiz and his girlfriend, Jenna Jameson. Jameson gave birth to twins, the couple’s first children together.

Retired porn star Jameson has been with former UFC champ Ortiz for two years. They have named the two boys Jesse Jameson Ortiz and Journey Jett Ortiz, with the boys said to be in ‘very good health’.

Gina “still single”

Yahoo Sport’s Steve Colfield got all the details on Gina Carano’s love life in a recent interview, discovering the gorgeous kickboxer is dating, but still single and that she finds it hard to meet guys.

“Yeah I’ve got guys coming up to me,” said the naturally shy Gina. “But I try to keep my eyes down, not make eye contact.” Carano says she finds it hard to meet men who aren’t either in awe of her fighting talent, or simply attracted to the fact she is famous.

“It’s just a funny position for someone to be in, who’s not that outward. I think there are probably a lot of actors, or people who are in the spotlight, who don’t know how come they’re there. So they’re a little bit shy,” she said, referring to herself.

The 26-year-old beauty also revealed she gets regular text messages from lesbian MMA fighter Tonya Evinger, who Carano defeated by submission in 2007. “Tonya’s a good friend,” said Carano. “But she keeps asking me to marry her!”

Silva vs Silva?

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has spoken out about Wanderlei Silva’s move to 185lb, reuniting a feud that dates back almost five years and laying foundations for an all-Brazil superfight.

In an appearance on Brazilian TV, former Chute Boxe representative Anderson said it was “pretentious” for Wanderlei to be campaigning at 185lb. Sending a clear message to Wanderlei, Anderson said “You going to get yourself in trouble”. Anderson also refused to include Wanderlei in a list of UFC fighters who might challenge him for his middleweight title.

The animosity between the two began several years ago when Anderson left Chute Boxe with the intention of managing his own career. At the time, Anderson told Brazilian magazine Tatame that Chute Boxe boss Rudimar Fedrigo and Wanderlei conspired to interfere with his PRIDE career.

“When I left Chute Boxe I was in a very difficult financial situation,” he said. “Rudimar said [to PRIDE] if I fought in PRIDE, Wanderlei would leave the Japanese organization. As a result I was six months unemployed [after fighting Ryo Chonan].”

Signed by the UFC in 2006, Anderson joined the former UFC and PRIDE heavyweight champion Minotauro’s team. “If Minotauro didn’t reach out to me, maybe I would have had to stop fighting because of it. I consider him and Rogério (Minotouro) my blood brothers. I owe them everything.”

Anderson was bitter that Wanderlei had not spoken out at the time against Fedrigo’s efforts to have him dropped by PRIDE.

With the two former teammates now fighting for the UFC and the war of words escalating, we could maybe see a Silva vs Silva showdown in the near future.

Jacare returns

Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenomenon Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza looks set to make his return to action for the first time since his loss to Gegard Mousasi in September of last year.

Souza, who is 10-2-0 in MMA and a two-time BJJ world champion, will return to Japan to fight an as-yet unannounced opponent in DREAM.
