Kneebar from guard

1. Karl has Anthony in his closed guard.

2. Anthony stands and starts to throw punches. Karl still has his legs around Anthony’s waist and is covering up.

3. Karl opens his guard and pivots to the right.

4. Still covering his head, he reaches in with his right hand and grips behind Anthony’s ankle. He drops his right knee inside the hip.

5. Gripping both hands on Anthony’s ankle, Karl brings his left leg across the body so that he has Anthony’s leg trapped between his own. He pinches his knees together and pushes his hips forward, toppling Anthony backwards.

6. Karl maintains his grip on the leg, pushing his hips in and pulling on the lower leg, hyper extending the leg to force the tap. It is important to maintain a tight grip on the leg by pinching the knees.

7. Alternate finish: If Anthony does not tap immediately, Karl can enhance the submission by reaching over and putting Anthony’s leg under his armpit.

Kneebar from halfguard

1. Karl is on top but in Anthony’s halfguard. He feels that Anthony’s legs are not crossed and will attack the top leg.

2. He starts to move towards the legs.

3. He grips the leg with his right hand and brings his left knee up and across the body.

4. Karl drops to his left, over to the opposite side of Anthony.

5. Having completed the roll, Karl pinches his knees together and hyper extends the knee for the submission.

Rolling kneebar from turtle

1. Karl is on all fours (turtle) and Anthony is gripping around his waist. Anthony has made the mistake of putting his knee between Karl’s legs.

2. Karl reaches through with his right hand and grips Anthony’s leg and begins the roll over his right shoulder.

3. He continues the roll. As Anthony’s weight comes forward, Karl will will trap the leg he is attacking with both of his own.

4. Again, Karl pinches the knees and hyper extends the leg for the tap.
