If you’re in Glasgow and you’re after a top-notch facility in which to train MMA then look no further than the Griphouse. Home to the ‘Dinky Ninjas’ MMA Fight Team (including Paul McVeigh, CageWarriors bantamweight champion and pound for pound one of the United Kingdom’s best fighters) and the highly respected Caledonian Muay Thai camp, the Griphouse is a centre of excellence for MMA, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai. With sessions on top of these including boxing, wrestling, conditioning and more, the Griphouse has some of Scotland’s top coaches and fighters all under one roof.
With 5000 sq ft of floor space (over two separate rooms of 2000sqft), one room is equipped with two boxing rings, various bags and conditioning equipment. The other is fully matted for MMA, BJJ or wrestling sessions. A strength and conditioning room houses the majority of the fitness equipment, and there is a common room with couches, widescreen TV, Playstations and a smoothie bar.
The coaching staff has many years of competitive experience between them. With backgrounds in sports science, they offer training that is cutting edge and maximises the athletes potential. Goal setting is regularly used in sessions to improve performance. The gym is also home to one of Scotland’s top sports therapists, Stevie Orr, who is available by appointment.
For those with little martial arts experience, there are programs in place that cover fundamentals in jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai. Class details can be found on their website.
