Arm Triangle from Side Control

1. Jason is in side control on Mark.

2. Mark is pushing under Jason’s chin to try to take pressure off and escape.

3. Jason responds by pushing on Mark’s elbow.

4. Having pushed the arm from under his chin, Jason pushes it across Mark’s neck.

5. Jason traps the arm in place by pushing his head in tight and clasping his hands.

6. Keeping his head low and his grip tight Jason brings a knee onto Mark’s torso…

7. …slipping into mount.

8. Jason dismounts so that he is on the opposite side to where he started.

9. To finish the choke Jason changes his grip, drives his shoulder into the neck and sprawls his hips flat to the mat.

10. Detail of the grip: Jason’s left hand (the one around the neck) goes deep into the bicep to create a ‘figure four’ grip.

Brabao Choke from Half Guard

1. Jason is in top half guard position.

2. Mark is trying to escape by digging an underhook and turning onto his side.

3. Jason shuts the escape down by whizzering the arm tightly. He grips the back of Mark’s head with his right hand.

4. He forcefully pulls Mark’s head into his hips with his right hand…

5. …simultaneously bringing his left hand through to hold the back of the head. Jason’s left arm now encircles mark’s right arm and neck.

6. Jason brings his right arm forward and makes the ‘figure four’ shape, gripping his right bicep with his left hand.

7. With the grip around the neck secure, Jason works to free his leg from Mark’s half guard.

8. He walks his hips away from Mark’s upper body and sprawls them flat to the floor, pressuring down with his chest to finish the submission.

Anaconda Choke from Front Headlock

1. Mark has a front headlock on Jason (Mark’s right arm is around the head, the left over the arm).

2. Mark pulls Jason’s arm forward with his left hand. As he does, he reaches through with his right hand and grabs under the armpit.

3. He slides his right arm forward and grips his bicep with his right hand, creating the ‘figure four’ position. Note that once he has the grip, Mark angles off to the right.

4. Mark rolls to his left shoulder…

5. …stopping once he has landed on his right side. He keeps the grip tight throughout the roll.

6. To finish the choke Mark stays on his right side but walks his hips toward Jason’s upper body.

7. If the choke requires further tightening, Mark can hook one leg over Jason’s legs to create extra pressure.
