Technique 1

1. Tyrone has side control on Ranjeet. Ranjeet has an underhook with his left arm.
2. Tyrone reaches his right hand back and grips Ranjeet’s wrist, maintaining the crossface throughout.
3. He pins the arm to the floor away from the body.

4. Tyrone lets go of the cross face and brings his arm around the head. He slides his left hand underneath Ranjeet’s upper arm and places his hand palm down on his own wrist.
5. He steps his left leg up and over Ranjeet’s head.
6. Tyrone lifts the arm as a unit and turns Ranjeet on his side. He then pushes forward with his right hand, twisting Ranjeet’s shoulder. Important point: Tyrone makes sure that Ranjeet’s forearm is perpendicular to the floor, increasing the effectiveness of the submission.

Technique One: Alternative finish

1. Tyrone has Ranjeet’s arm isolated and has the crossface.
2. He lets go of the cross face and reaches his arm through to garb his own wrist.
3. He cannot step his leg up now, as Ranjeet is blocking the hip. Instead he sprawls his hip back and keeps his weight down.
4. Keeping his weight down, Tyrone rolls slightly to his right. He extends his hands away from Ranjeet’s body, straightening the trapped arm but maintaining a slight bend at the elbow. He then torques the arm as before to finish the submission. Important point: If Tyrone rolls too far to his right, he risks Ranjeet sitting up from underneath him, therefore he must be mindful of his balance when on top.

Technique two

1. Ranjeet has north-south on Tyrone.
2. He brings his left hand underneath Tyrone’s elbow, creating space between the arm and the body.
3. Ranjeet places his right hand on Tyrone’s left wrist and pushes it to the floor. As he does so, he places his left hand palm-down on his right wrist.

4. Ranjeet brings his knees up under the back of Tyrone’s head, making it difficult for Tyrone to move.
5. He steps his right leg up, keeping Tyrone’s head on his thigh, and places his foot between Tyrone’s arm and body, completely shutting down Tyrone’s movement.
6. To finish, Ranjeet pushes down with his right hand, maintaining a 90º angle in Tyrone’s arm.
