Greg Jackson is the most sought-after trainer in MMA. Each issue he and acclaimed coaching partner Mike Winkeljohn mix up your martial arts skills

1-2 strikes to far-hip double-leg

1. Greg (right) and Mike start in orthodox stances – left leg forward.

2. Looking to set up his takedown, Greg first fires a jab.

3. He then throws a big overhand right, stepping out and placing all his weight onto his left leg as he throws.

4. Greg now makes a quick, deep penetration step in between Mike’s feet with his right leg. Note, Greg’s right foot is slightly rotated clockwise to accommodate the odd angle of the shot.

PRO TIP: Keeping all his weight on his left leg in the previous step allows Greg to make a quick, hard switch to Mike’s rear hip.

Reverse Angle

5. Greg grabs behind Mike’s knees and transitions all of his weight from his left leg into the takedown, head under Mike’s left arm, looking and driving upward.

PRO TIP: This takedown might feel awkward but it’s effective because of the expectation an opponent will shoot for the front hip.

6. Looking to finish the takedown by turning the corner, Greg steps his left leg around and leans into Mike.
