The Fifth Fighters Only World MMA Awards in facts and figures.

25%

Ronda Rousey was nominated in four award categories, a record for an individual athlete, but went home with just one statue on the night, giving her a 25% success rate.

6

Only six winners retained their 2011 awards – a huge decrease on the 2011 ceremony that saw 12 statues remain in the same hands. Jon Jones, Dana White, Joe Rogan, Ariel Helwani, the UFC and Herb Dean all went home with the same awards they left with in 2011.

‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung, after scooping ‘Submission of the Year’ for that Twister in 2011, was shortlisted for three awards this time – including ‘Sub of the Year’ yet again. However, the fan favourite failed to pick up a single statue.

33

Votes were received from 33 countries worldwide, edging last year’s previous record of 31, and obliterating the entries received from just 22 countries in 2010. Again, further evidence MMA is taking over the planet.

Jon Jones became the first athlete in history to win back-to-back ‘Charles Mask Lewis Fighter of the Year’ awards. Especially significant when you look over the previous winners: Anderson Silva, Georges St Pierre and José Aldo.

50

Cutman Leon Tabbs has spent more than 50 years of his life working in combat sports, including almost 20 years in MMA since UFC 1, making him a worthy recipient of the 2012 ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award.
