Heading into the bout versus Carlos Condit, you could have cut the tension with a knife. Canadians from coast to coast were legitimately worried for GSP, fearing the very worst for their country’s favourite son. But the victory not only reaffirmed all beliefs in Georges, but it was confirmed by new ratings records both for TV and online. His stock has risen to a whole new level. Whether it’s water cooler talk or walking in the streets, the buzz of his return has yet to simmer down. In The Great White North, it’s not necessarily who St Pierre will face next, it’s more of making sure one’s schedule is left open for his return. Every time he competes, it’s more than just an event; it’s now turned into a national holiday.”

It was nice to see Georges come back from an extended layoff, but, he showed more chinks in his armour than we’ve ever seen before. Not only did he get dropped in that fight, but Georges had trouble taking Carlos down as well. He also had trouble as far as submissions go. That was the most beat up I’ve ever seen Georges stepping out of the Octagon. So, to answer your question, has Georges’ stock risen? I mean, he’s still the champion. He still holds the belt. But no, I don’t think Georges gets past Johny Hendricks. Johny is the true number-one contender in the welterweight division now, and I think he can capitalise on those holes we saw in Georges’ return.”

What you had to say on the matter ...

NO

“His pay per view figures say yes. With a dominating show of wrestling. But he got dropped. And went to points again. Answer – no.”

“If anything GSP’s stock fell. In order for his stock to rise he needed to win convincingly and not take a beating.”

YES

“Yes it has, by a huge amount. Forget Silva fight, continue dominating the new breed @ welterweight.”

“No I don’t think so, it’s great he got the win after the long layoff but I don’t think it was a convincing win.”
