Fight camp fuel from inside the ice-boxes of champions
The Lebanese-Canadian enjoys nothing more than a filet mignon and a glass of red – when he’s not punching people in the face
What are the five essentials in your fridge?
“I’d have to say meat, fruit, vegetables, peanut butter and water. I buy water bottles, so I keep a lot of water stored inside the fridge.”
Do you have a cheat meal for when you’re in training camp?
“Yeah, I have a cheat meal. It’s mostly chocolate (laughs). Sometimes I’ll have different types of candy, but it’s mostly chocolate. I like the sour candies that are all mixed up. They’re fantastic.”
Do you keep anything else inside your freezer, besides frozen peas?
“It’s pretty funny, I don’t have frozen peas in my freezer, but I do have this thing called Full Effects, and I keep it in there for when I’m injured and I need to ice myself. It’s really good for that. I also like to freeze meat, I like to cut it up and put it in the freezer, when I’m hungry I’ll just cook it up.”
What’s your favourite bottled sauce?
“Sweet and sour, for sure.”
What is your signature dish?
“My background is Lebanese, so it’s pretty much a combination of chick peas, with a Lebanese salad with shish kabob. Every week we go to my mom’s house and have a nice family dinner and that’s one of the things we may eat.”
What dessert do you enjoy the most?
“I don’t know if you can really call this a dessert, but I love a glass of red wine after supper. It makes everything taste that much better.”
What’s your favourite meal during fight camp?
“I don’t really have one to be honest. It’s usually pretty boring (laughs). If I enjoy something it’s usually a nice dish, like a filet mignon, with sweet potato and vegetables.”
What meal do you eat after you weigh-in?
“It depends on where I’m at because every restaurant is different. I try to make sure I have meats and vegetables and a lot of carbs wherever I end up going.”
What is your least favourite type of food?
“That’s a good question, but whatever it is I don’t eat it (laughs). That’s why I can’t answer that question because whatever it is, I don’t eat it.”
If you could pick three meals to eat for the rest of your life, and only those three meals, what would they be?
“That’s a tough question to ask because I enjoy food a lot, but if I could only pick three meals it would probably be steak, burgers and maybe a nice piece of fish.”
