Issue 005

July 2005

Thanks to everyone for their comments and kind words on our last issue. Hopefully you can see that we are continuously trying to bring you a better read every month. Your feedback has been fantastic and we really do appreciate it. Do you really think it was the best one yet? You say that every month!

It’s not just the weather that is starting to hot up at this time of the year — so is the fighting action. To start with this month we bring you the latest news and reviews from the U.S. Ken Pishna’s exclusive UFC Heavy Hitters report on page 20 gives an in-depth review of the latest major event in Altlantic City. Dan ‘The Wolfman’ Theodore speaks exclusively with Ultimate Fighter competitors Forrest Griffin and Nate Quarry while Paul Thatcher brings us a fantastic report on the ADCC Championships held at Long Beach California. Read about the UK’s own superstar competitor Jeff Monson in his bid to win the 99kg crown. On top of this we have another exclusive interview, this time with Lions Den fighter Guy Mezger on the new reality show to hit U.S. screens, ‘Badass’ TV.

We continue our reports on the Shooto competitions in Brazil with Dennis Martins’ report from Shooto 8. There are also reports on UK events such as Fight Club UK held in Sheffield. Together with the World News we expand on the French action to bring you news from the K-1 Championships in Paris and a French perspective from the events at the last Cagewarriors show. As well as the usual reviews, competitions nutritional and training advice, we highlight the one and only Antonio Rodrigo ‘Minotauro’ Nogueira as our fighter in profile this month.

Also, in this month’s issue, read the first part in our new series on ‘The Evolution of MMA’. Each month Hwyel Teague will highlight one aspect and fighting style that makes up the sport we know and love. Each month we will detail how each particular sport or style of combat has developed and played an important role in the evolution of mixed martial arts. We kick off the series with boxing.

I hope to get more calls and messages from you next month congratulating us on ‘The best issue yet’!

Hope you like it, and remember…

Train hard, fight easy
