Fight Night 139 marked the 25th anniversary of the first UFC contest and showed how far the sport has come

Two months ago, we dedicated an issue of Fighters Only to the 25th Anniversary of UFC 1, an event that was, in turn, commemorated by UFC Fight Night 139 which was held in the same location, Denver and on the same weekend (11/12 November) as the original event 25 years earlier. The night did not fail to deliver with Donald Cerrone breaking Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre’s joint record of 20 UFC wins while Yair Rodriguez provided the most amazing of finishes. But perhaps the most significant sight of the evening was the original UFC logo, present, front and center in the Octagon. Fans from the earliest days of the sport felt an immediate emotional connection to the logo and it still reminds us of how far the sport has progressed and what transpired that night back in 1993.
