Move from a dangerous position to an inescapable, fight-finishing mounted triangle

Vinny Magalhaes, the four-time world BJJ champion, 205lb fighter and instructor reveals his best no-gi techniques, with Casey Milliken.



1 - Casey wraps his arms around Vinny’s body and buries his head in his chest to avoid strikes from mount.



2 - Vinny pops his right leg up, trapping Casey’s left arm between his leg and body, then leans to the same side to create space.



3 - Vinny uses his left hand to push Casey’s head away, which can create some space to strike if he wants.



4 - Using his hand to keep control if necessary, Vinny slides his knee over Casey’s right arm while keeping pressure on him.



5 - Now Vinny scoops Casey’s head up with his left hand to control his posture further and create space.



6 - With Casey’s head locked between his arm and calf and moving his hand to grab his shin, Vinny rolls to the side.



7 - He brings his left leg over to lock his leg in a figure-four position and secure the triangle.



8 - Casey is trapped, so Vinny pushes himself back to the top position into a tight mounted triangle.


TOP TIPS

WHITE BELT

Make sure your foot is flat when you pop your leg up in step 2, for the strongest base possible.

BLACK BELT

You can also go for a kimura or straight armbar if the choke isn’t working.

PURPLE BELT

If your opponent won’t tap, their face will be defenseless from your strikes in the mounted triangle position.
