STAT ATTACK
Not only is he the first and only person to pull off the twister submission in the UFC, Jung is also the first South Korean to ever compete for a UFC title in its 20-year history.
Since fighting under the Zuffa banner The Korean Zombie has become a bonus king, earning two 'Submission of the Night' checks, one 'Knockout of the Night' prize and two 'Fight of the Night' checks totaling $235,000.
Known for throwing caution to the wind and going all out against opponents, Jung is considered one of the sport's most consistent and devastating finishers. In fact, during a six-year, 17-fight career he has only gone to a decision twice.
TORN ROTATOR CUFF
While training for his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC on Fuel TV: Korean Zombie vs Poirier, Jung began to have issues with his shoulder, stopping him from doing exercises such as chin-ups, pull-ups and even push-ups.
Jung went to have an MRI scan to find out why his shoulder was causing him so much discomfort and discovered his rotator cuff had been torn. Even though the doctors told him he was unfit to fight Poirier, Jung still fought the American defeating him in an all-time classic battle.
Even though he was victorious, Jung was put out of action for 15 months after finally undergoing surgery.
DISLOCATED SHOULDER
After 15 months on the shelf Jung returned to the Octagon as a late replacement for Anthony Pettis at UFC 163. Although he lost all three rounds on the judges' scorecards he started to gain more success in the fourth round until he threw an overhand right which dislocated his right shoulder, causing José Aldo to pounce on him and finish the fight.
Despite the fact they were able to pop his shoulder back into place after the fight, Jung still had to have surgery to fix the problem.
BROKEN ORBITAL BONE
Not only was Jung's shoulder separated during the fight with Aldo, his orbital bone was also broken. Those two injuries meant Jung had to undergo two surgeries in 2013, the second of which will place him on the shelf to the latter part of 2014.
