the help of former US national judo champion Bobby Lee, the US Olympic team head coach presents the best judo moves for mixed martial arts. Here he shows you how to perform a Sumi Gaeshi AKA Sacrifice Throw.

1: Jimmy (white gi) takes control of Bobby’s right wrist with his left hand.

2. He then reaches for a cross-grip, grabbing Bobby’s gi at the right elbow with his left hand. the right elbow with . Jimmy now has control of Bobby’s right shoulder.

3: Jimmy pulls Bobby’s right arm across his chest, wraps his left arm around Bobby’s back and grips under the far-side arm before pressing his forehead to Bobby’s head.

4: Seeking to make Bobby resist and react, Jimmy fakes a forward technique by stepping his left foot inside Bobby’s right foot.

5: Beginning the throw proper, Jimmy uses his body weight by dropping his right foot all the way underneath Bobby’s stance. Jimmy’s head moves in a circle toward Bobby’s left hip as he torques with his hands.

6: Jimmy drives off his right foot as soon as it lands on the mat and pushes with his left leg, throwing Bobby up and over into the air.

7: As Bobby lands on the mat, Jimmy catapults himself into side control with his planted right foot.
