Move: Leg kick to single-leg takedown.
1) Greg (left) squares off with his student Wade Stringer. Both are in an in orthodox (right-handed) stance.
2) Greg throws a jab. When attempting a leg kick, you should usually open with a punch to distract your opponent. A leg kick travels a long way so can easily be anticipated.
3) Greg chambers the leg kick and Wade instinctively acts to check the kick with the lower part of his left (leading) knee.
4) Greg connects with the kick and continues to move his weight forward. Rather than recoiling his attacking leg, he brings it straight down to the floor upon connecting.
5) Greg picks up Wade’s front leg. He stays on his feet rather than dropping a knee to the ground. Because Wade’s leaning back after his check, his front leg is easy to access.
6) Greg takes a step back with his right leg and applies heavy chest pressure to make Wade fall: it’s a similar motion to bowing. With Wade taken down, Greg has many options. For example, he could secure a grappling position or strike from the top depending on his opponent.
