Issue 134

November 2015

Try this simple hip lift takedown to seize control when there’s a stalemate on the feet.

1 - Greg and John are tied up in a 50/50 clinch.

2 - Greg pummels his right arm under John’s left.

3 - He takes a body lock on John’s lower back.

4 - Keeping his hands locked, Greg changes levels by dropping to his left knee as he moves his hands below John’s butt.

5 - Now with control of the hips, Greg moves his left foot to the outside of John’s right leg and steps up onto it.

6 - Keeping his back straight, Greg straightens his legs to lift John.

7 - As part of the same movement, Greg rotates John sideways.

8 - Greg falls to his knees to dump John on the mat.

9 - Greg takes a dominant position in side control.

PRO TIPS:

As you rise to your feet, thrust with your hips to make it easier to elevate your opponent.

Using your legs to lift you opponent is not only easier, it means your back will be straight and your neck won’t be exposed for them to grab a guillotine choke.
