Sadly, he would go on to be knocked out by a spectacular front kick by Machida, yet the outcome didn’t deter the millions of eyes that gazed upon him as he tearfully thanked his legion of fans and the UFC after a prodigious 14-year career, followed by him quietly and professionally making his way out of the cage and into the tunnel to hang his 4oz gloves up with grace.
Few have done more for MMA than Couture, and although fans will not be seeing the former two-division champ in the Octagon again, his legend will live on way after the final bell rings.
