Get out of a tight spot and transition into a position to deliver some serious offense with this reversal.

Ricky Lundell: The BJJ black belt and NCAA Division I wrestling prodigy presents his MMA wall-work masterclass with Dan Hardy.

1 - Dan has Ricky pressed against the wall with a left-arm underhook and a head position that limits Ricky’s movement. But Ricky’s grip on the right wrist prevents Dan from gaining double underhooks.

2 - Turning his right arm and raising it above his head allows Ricky to catch the back of Dan’s neck as he moves o the wall and turns clockwise to face him.

3 - Ricky gets a single collar-tie with his right hand by turning and cupping the back of Dan’s neck.

4 - Ricky brings his left hand to the back of Dan’s head for a double-plumb Thai clinch.

5 - Ricky uses his clinch to turn Dan into the wall, enabling Ricky to throw knees or move away.

TOP TIPS:

WHITE BELT

  • When holding your opponent against the cage, drive your forehead into their jaw to make it harder for them to move.

PURPLE BELT

  • When controlling your opponent with a single collar-tie, drive your forearm into their sternum to stop them from closing the distance.

BLACK BELT

  • Go for a flying triangle as you turn. When controlling your opponent’s wrist (step 3) jump your left leg over their right shoulder and throw your right leg over your left foot and triangle your legs. As you drop to the mat, pull your opponent’s head to lower their posture, then squeeze your legs to get the tap.
