A devastating body punch brings Jose Aldo victory.

This actually hurt to watch.

As anyone who has suffered a hard shot to the liver can attest, this particular blow can be excruciatingly painful (just ask most of Bas Rutten’s former opponents!)

If the shot is delivered correctly, it will literally incapacitate a person as can be seen by the reaction of Jeremy Stephens after being hit by a Jose Aldo trademark blow!

With textbook style, the punch was made with the left hand, via a short and quick hook to the body.

The punch put Stephen’s liver into shock which caused him to crumple in pain and breathlessness partly due to the body’s largest gland having its blood supply cut off.

The noise created by punch hitting the body signified the power of the blow and made the audience wince at the thought of what Stephens was experiencing.

Respect to Jeremy Stephens for keeping as much composure as he did to try and defend the following submission attempts and signalling to the referee that he was OK. However this could only be maintained briefly and Jose Aldo soon secured his first stoppage in the Octagon since August 2013.

STEP 1 - THE SET-UP:

As Aldo slips oncoming punches, Stephens' momentum helps Aldo generate the power to counter punch and set up the body attack.

STEP 2 - CREATING THE OPENING:

Stephens' lower right side is exposed as he reacts to defend a right hand body shot, thereby creating an opening.

STEP 3 - THE BLOW:

Stepping in and delivering the blow with full weight distribution, Aldo lands the perfectly placed left hand shot right above the liver.

STEP 4 - THE FINISH:

Taking advantage of Stephens' incapacitated state, Aldo moves in, gains top position and continues to pound his opponent until the referee has to move in and stop the fight.
