“Rocky is here!” Gus Johnson might have overstated the upset credentials of Seth Petruzelli’s 14-second KO of Kimbo Slice, but it was still a big shock for EliteXC. Coming in as a last-minute replacement for the injured Ken Shamrock, ‘The Silverback’ was unknown by most, but far more skilled than the promotion’s golden goose, who had been its magnet for mainstream attention.
With him exposed, it lost its funding within three weeks and went out of business soon after.
