UFC on Fox 4 – Mike Swick KO2 DaMarques Johnson A triumphant return to the UFC by a crowd favorite.
Mike Swick had been out of action for two-and- a-half years, thanks to illness and injury.
When he was finally scheduled to come back – in August 2012, on the big stage of network TV – some thought it would be impossible for him to return at the same level, and ring rust would make beating DaMarques Johnson a tall order.
That’s exactly the kind of talk that gets ‘Quick’ fired up. Add in a first-round effort that saw him fall behind on the judges’ cards, the TUF 1 contestant came out with a rocket up his rear. A crowd-pleasing finish and $50,000 ‘Knockout of the Night’ bonus was mere moments away...
SELF-BELIEF
“It shows a man that should not be able to win can pull it o out of sheer willpower,” says Swick.
“It’s a testament to never giving up, no matter the circumstances. There were so many things telling me I can’t win that fight, and I just ignored them all. I always believed in my mind that I could do it.”
Step 1
- Johnson attacks with a right kick, but Swick is quick to react and manages to catch his foot. He extends an arm and drives forward to dump his opponent to the mat.
Step 2
- The second Johnson hits the mat, Swick nails him with an overhand right from guard that brings his defenses down. Two more shots follow and then the lights go out for ‘Darkness’.
