Break through the tightest mount defense with a keylock.



1: Vinny begins in full mount, but Casey keeps his arms tight to stop chokes and armbar attempts.



2: Vinny uses his left hand on Casey’s left wrist to push his arm to the mat, pins it there and drops his elbow next to Casey’s head.



3: Once it’s there, Vinny slides his right hand underneath Casey’s arm and grabs his left wrist.



4: To finish, Vinny slides his right knee back to give himself space, keeps Casey’s hand pinned, slides his elbow back and pops it up.

WHITE BELT

An Americana (or keylock) is likely to be the easiest grappling move when your opponent defends well by keeping their arms tight to their chest.

PURPLE BELT

The alternative to grappling in this situation is to punch you opponent in the face.

BLACK BELT

Your opponent may not have lapels or sleeves to grab in no-gi and MMA competition, but wrists are usually available to attack.
