Shooto Brazil 6 sets Curitiba on fire – clube militar de Curitiba gymnasium in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil

Thirteen fights headlined the last edition of the Brazilian version of the most exciting lightweight event from Japan, the Shooto. This was the second time in Shooto Brazil's history that the event was held in Curitiba, the area where the Chute Boxe academy is located.

CLASS B FIGHT

Fight 1:-70kg (welterweight)

Cristiano "Neguinho' Ribas (Gracie Curitiba) def Wanderlei Smala (Zenedin) by armbar at 2:14 of R1.

In the first fight Jiu-Jitsu brown belt (Neguinho) didn't have a problem taking Smala down to the ground quickly and passing his guard. Neguinho hit Smala's face from side-control position. Smala couldn't protect himself and tried to escape by stretching one of his arms out to push Neguinho. So Neguinho took advantage and grabbed Smala's arm to finish the contest by armbar in less than two minutes 15 seconds into the fight.

Fight 2:-70kg (welterweight)

Wagner Gavea (Noguchi) def Fabio Baum (Falcão/São Bento do Sul) by TKO 1:48 of R1.

The Muay Thai master Fábio Noguchi booked his student, Wagner Gavea, for his debut in Shooto Brazil against Fabio Baum. Gavea showed his skills with a very polished Muay Thai game by flurrying punches and knees on Baum, who couldn't defend himself (forcing his corner to throw in the towel).

Fight 3:-75kg

Jose Carlos 'Metal" (Shooto Brazil Dojo) def Mateus Andraus (Thai Boxe) by split decision.

Both fighters traded punches on their feet, but Andraus took the fight to the ground and obtained a punched Metal's face and sunk an arm-triangle. The fight seemed finished, but Metal resisted bravely. In round two Andraus tried to impose his best ground-game again, but missed an armbar; Andraus went to the bottom and Metal ground 'n' pounded him effectively. The judges gave the split decision to Metal for his aggressive Ground 'n' Pound in R2.

Fight 4:-80kg

Rodrigo 'Pimpolho' Fajardo (Gracie Curitiba) def Sergio Schiavon (Ponto 1) by armbar at 0:34 of R1.

Pimpolho was taken down by Schiavon early in the fight. From the full-guard, he grabbed Schiavo's arm and stretched it out with an indefensible armbar. The fastest fight of the night!

Fight 5:-76kg (middleweight)

Julian Soares (RFT) vs Paulo Bueno (Zenedin), draw

The student of Marcio 'Cromado Barbosa (number eight world Shooto ranking at welterweight), Julian Soares went to a draw with the tough Katel Kubis in his last Shooto Brazil fight and he was determined to add a victory to his resume this time round at Shooto Brazil 6. When round one's bell sounded, Soares played his Luta-Livre game and took Bueno to the ground. Several times each one had the opportunity of getting a better position, however only Soares was close to submitting when he sunk an ankle lock, but he was saved by the bell. In rounds two and three, Soares attempted a takedown, while Bueno sprawled and landed fly-knees. Neither fighter had an advantage, resulting in the judges declaring the bout a draw.

Fight 6: -65kg (lightweight)

Erinaldo Pitbull (Gracie Barra Combat Team) def Ricardo Rodrigues (Fighteam) by rear naked choke at 0:44 of R3.

The first round was very balanced. Rodrigues had a small advantage in the fight, which was mainly all striking on their feet. Other advantages for Rodrigues included a tight guillotine choke sunk in the end of the round that Erinaldo defended well. Early in round three, Erinaldo landed a right cross that connected with Rodrigues's face. Who was an easy target for Erinaldo – who roped the neck of Rodrigues and finished him off with a rear-naked choke.

Fight 7:-60 kg (bantamweight)

Aritano Silva (RFT) def Jovi Lara (BIT) by armbar at 0:46 of R1.

In a quick fight, Silva and Lara traded punches on the feet. Silva clinched, put Lara on the ground, and got the mount position. Silva didn't work much to land punches afterwards, as he submitted Lara by armbar.

Fight 8:-70 kg (welterweight)

Ivonildo Cafu (Never Shake) def Marcus Vinicius (BIT) by TKO (referee stoppage) at R2.

After Vinicius tried to sink a triangle lock on him, Cafu escaped, passed the guard and got the mount. The punishment was very hard and as Vinicius couldn't defend himself from Cafu's hands, the referee stopped the fight; determining the TKO in round two down.

Fight 9:-93kg

Helio Dipp (Power Team) def Wagner Tiburcio (Noguchi-CWB) by KO at 3:47 of R1.

Tiburcio didn't surpass the excellent Dipp, who took advantage of his reach to display nice boxing skills on his feet. Tiburcio realised he was not a polished fighter on his feet, so he shot in to take Dipp down but Dipp just clinched-no successful takedown. Dipp kneed Tiburcio a few times, one of them connected and KO'd Tiburcio, who dropped out of the ring.

Fight 10:-83kg (light heavyweight)

Renato Matos (Giudice/Equipe 1) def Fábio Tigrão (Shooto Brazil Dojo) by TKO (tap out) at R2.

Matos didn't fear the Muay Thai black belt of Tigrão and started trading strikes. While Tigrão was better on his feet, Matos took the fight down and showed his superiority on the ground. Matos got the side control and continued (for most of the fight) to punch Tigrão's face, he couldn't take it and tapped out in round two.

Fight 11:-70kg (welterweight)

Josenildo Indio (Giudice/Equipe 1) def Willian Casquilha (Fighteam) by TKO (referee stoppage) at R2.

Indio is a Chinese-boxing specialist and he proved it with good low kicks to Casquilha's legs in round one. Early in round two, Indio landed a straight right that knocked Casquilha down. Indio then went ahead and punched Casquilha until the referee jumped between them to stop the massacre.

Fight 12:-83kg (light heavyweight]

Luis 'Beição' Ramos (Gracie Barra Combat Team) def Paulo Boiko (BTT) by decision.

The tone of this fight was the clinch in the ropes. The referee restarted the fight constantly, Inside round two, Boiko took Beição down and from the half guard he hit Beição with strikes. Round three came and Beição kept the fight on the feet, where he showed his superiority over Boiko with good punches. The fight went to a decision outcome and Beição took it by unanimous decision.

Fight 13:-83kg (light heavyweight)

Eduardo Pamplona (Never Shake) def Carlos Lima (BIT) by guillotine choke at R1.

The main event of Shooto Brazil 6. Everyone expected a balanced fight on the feet because Pamplona and Lima are extraordinary stand-up fighters, but Pamplona reigned absolute in the main event. Pamplona took advantage of an inaccurate throw attempt by Lima and sunk a guillotine choke, ending the match prematurely in round one.
