1 - Casey has Vinny trapped in his rubber guard, with his calf over the back of his neck.
2 - By pushing onto his toes, Vinny drives his weight forward and stacks Casey onto his shoulders.
3 - Vinny works his arm through the space between Casey’s head and shoulder.
4 - Vinny lowers his weight, switches his hips and brings his back leg through.
5 - Vinny pushes Casey’s left leg to the mat with his right hand to create an opening for the pass.
6 - Vinny passes his left knee to the mat and pins Casey’s left leg with his lower shin.
7 - Vinny cups Casey’s left elbow to prevent him from blocking his hip with his hand.
8 - Vinny slides his left leg all the way through pass to side control.
Top Tips
White Belt
The worst thing you can do in rubber guard is try and pull your body out. The more you do, the tighter it gets.
Purple Belt
Just by stacking your opponent, you can make their position really uncomfortable and force them to release their grip.
Black Belt
Instead of passing to side control, you could drop your hips to start working for submissions or striking from half guard.
