The most decorated female amateur fighter of all time, Sabrina de Sousa, has officially turned professional, and has signed with Brave Combat Federation.
Brazilian-born De Sousa, who captured an unprecedented three IMMAF women's world championships during a stellar amateur career, has represented the Kingdom of Bahrain on the global amateur stage. So it's perhaps not surprising to see that she has signed with Bahrain-based Brave CF, where she'll bid to climb the ranks and capture championship gold as a professional.
De Sousa, who trains out of KHK MMA Team in Manama, Bahrain, as well as Nova Uniao in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, captured three successive IMMAF featherweight world titles to become the first female athlete to do so, and join an elite group of just three fighters to have achieved three IMMAF world titles in their career. She also won the MMA Super Cup as part of Team Bahrain, and claimed IMMAF's Asian and European championships during her unblemished 15-0 amateur career.
Now she's ready to parlay her dominant skillset from the amateur ranks to the pros as she follows in the footsteps of fellow former IMMAF stars who turned pro with Brave CF, including Ramazan Gitinov, Rasul Magomedov, and Muhammad Mokaev. A press release from Brave CF states that de Sousa will be competing in their women's flyweight division.
De Sousa becomes the latest female amateur world champion to join a major promotion after her old rival, New Zealand's former IMMAF women's lightweight champion Michelle Montague, signed with the PFL last year.
