Jim Miller has had his wish granted and the MMA veteran will feature on the UFC 300 card, in a Lightweight contest against Bobby Green.
Miller made no secret of his desire to compete at the T-Mobile Arena on April 13th, having fought on UFC 100 and UFC 200. After a solid performance against Gabriel Benitez at UFC Fight Night Ankalaev vs Walker 2, ‘A-10’ once again expressed how much he would like to fight on the mammoth card.
Dana White announced Miller vs Green on his social media. He said:
“Jim Miller. 40-years-old. Is the all time leader in UFC wins at 26. He has got the most UFC finishes in Lightweight history at 16 and he is tied for most submissions in UFC Lightweight history, with Charles Oliveira at 10.
“And now, he is attempting to break into the top 15 in one of the nastiest divisions in the sport and he will be facing the guy that fights anyone, any time, anywhere, Bobby Green.
“Bobby hasn’t seen a scorecard in two years. His fights do not go the distance and he has got 20 finishes and his style is in your face, moving forward, pushing the action the entire time.
“This fight has been scheduled three times, but this is the time that matters.”
The two were first meant to meet a decade ago at UFC 172 but Green had to withdraw due to injury. The promotion tried to book the contest at UFC 258 but after complications with his weight cut led to Green collapsing backstage, the fight was pulled once more. Cleary keen for the fight to happen, the UFC tried again at UFC 276 but the fight did not go ahead due to Green returning a positive drug test.
Miller’s career is nothing short of admirable. Making his UFC debut in 2008, ‘A-10’ has fought the who's who of the Lightweight division with names such as Benson Henderson, Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis, Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier appearing on his resume. Miller is in fine form entering the contest, his last outing against Benitez certainly proved he can still hang with the top of the division but prior he had compiled an impressive 4-1 run from his last five bouts. As White mentioned in the fight announcement, a win over Green could see him move into the rankings of one of the most competitive divisions in the UFC at present.
Green currently sits ranked at 14th at 155lbs. Anyone, any time, anywhere is definitely an apt description of ‘King’, who competed 5 times in less than 12 months between December of 2022 and 2023. His exciting, unrelenting style always leads to entertaining bouts. Last time out, Green was set to face Dan Hooker but following Hooker’s withdrawal, ‘King’ ended up facing Jalin Turner. He will look to get himself back in the win column at UFC 300, with Turner dispatching of him in a little over half way through the first round of their bout.
Both men can display great technical ability, but both are also more than willing to let their hands go and have a tear up in front of a packed out arena. Miller vs Green is a perfect addition to UFC 300.
