What do you hate eating during fight camp?
Vegetables are kinda hard for me, man. My diet is high-protein and I love steak, chicken, salmon and stuff like that.
I’m in love with carbs and bread is my weakness. It’s quite sad cutting those out for a while.
Vegetables are the best thing to eat because they fill you up and give you the right nutrients but they’re tough for me. Brussels sprouts are my enemy. I can’t stand them.
What do you snack on?
I like to snack on almonds. I love smoothies. I think fruits are like my favorite thing that gets me through fight camp. Just having some fresh fruit is always nice and because of the sugars they make you a little bit happy.
What do you eat after the weigh-ins are over?
I’m telling you, me and Christian (Lee, brother) got this huge loaf of French bread, it was 14 inches and we just started eating it right in front of everyone after we weighed in. Just bread. We were making a mess with all the crumbs everywhere (laughs). Or coaches were laughing at us but that was our kid side coming out. Yay, food!
What about after you’d fought?
We went crazy. Pasta, pizza, all the sweets, chocolate and caramels.
I have a huge sweet tooth so I stashed my room with cookies, brownies and caramels. It was really bad.
People would come in our room and be like, ‘You guys are torturing yourselves. How can you just stare at this food?’ I’m like, ‘It’s motivation’ (laughs).
Do you like any veggies?
I like sweet potatoes and I mean, broccoli – it’s OK.
What do you crave from Singapore when at home in Hawaii?
It’s called chili crab. You have this massive crab with all this sauce on top and these deep-fired buns that you dip in the sauce. It’s so good.
My grandparents lived with us and cooked all the Singaporean dishes. My mom actually learned to cook some food because my dad would always be craving it.
Do you prefer Singaporean or Hawaiian food?
It’s like a mix of both. It depends on fight camp and what I’ve been craving.
I really like the food in Singapore, especially after fighting. I still love my burgers and steaks. Nothing beats an American burger.
LOVES
I love pizza. I could go for pepperoni, extra cheese and some bacon bits on top. Pizza’s great. It’s my favorite.
